A Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess Exploit?! Ok now that I got your attention.. apparently a team of developers going by the name of Team Twiizers, made up of bushing, Segher, tmbinc, have just released an gamesave exploit for Nintendo's Wii. While everyone seems to have an opinion on exploits, exploits which ultimately lead to the ability to run homebrew, games and other applications on the Wii. Be it good or bad, it seems this time the exploit is real...

Wii Twilight ExploitWhat is this Twilight Hack all about?

The Twilight Hack is a exploit for the Wii, which is executed via it's resting spot, a Zelda Twilight Princess gamesave. At the current time this exploit will simply load up with a black screen, displaying some diagnostics about the Wii, as proof it is running in "Wii Mode" as compared to previous exploits which were carried over from the Gamecube.

How do I load this exploit and test it for myself?

Loading the exploit is quite simple. First copy the exploit to a SD card as with any normal savegame. Then insert the SD card in your Wii. Make sure there are currently no Zelda: Twilight Princess savegames. If you do have saves from this game they should be deleted or saved to another SD card first. Then copy the Twilight Exploit to the Wii. Load up Zelda: Twilight Princess from the Wii Channels menu and run the exploit. Simple as that.

What's Required?

  • A Wii
  • Twilight Exploit (download below)
  • Zelda: Twilight Princess (version details below)
    • RVL-RZDP-0A-0 JPN - working
    • RVL-RZDE-0A-0 JPN - working
    • RVL-RZDE-0A-2 USA - reportedly not working
Note: If you have a USBGecko, try unplugging it from the Wii before running the exploit. There's a bug in the USBGecko code used in the exploit that will make the game hang if you have a USBGecko plugged in to the wii, but not connected to any program on your computer.

The Zelda: Twilight Princess game save resides in the following location:

For PAL:
cp rzdp.bin $MOUNT/private/wii/title/RZDP/data.bin
For NTSC:
cp rzde.bin $MOUNT/private/wii/title/RZDE/data.bin

What should we expect from the Twilight Hack in the future?

Well as is mentioned in the video, the team plans to release an elf loader. This is basically a loader which runs executable on Wii. In other words, a loader for games or applications created by gamers and programmers such as yourself. These games will be able to run in "Wii Mode" with access to Wii's hardware such as the Wiimote, SD slot, and other Wii specific hardware (rather then Gamecube).

Lt. Clavitz says:
Do we have to delete our old TP save data to use it? It doesn't seem like we should have to since there are multiple save slots but they did it in the video.

You have to since all the slots are stored in the same savegame file

Wii Man says:
Lt. Clavitz, you don't have to delete it, rather, you should be able to copy your regular save data to the SD card as well.
