While the Wii does have a number of media capabilities few have been truely expanded on. Many homebrew streaming programs such as Wii Media Center X have been dropped. Others have issues with the lag in dealing with online streaming or difficulty in converting to acceptable formats.
For those who like to watch TV however, they are really going to love Nintendo's new channel. The recently released TV Guide channel allows you to view whats currently on TV now, or in the future and get this, you can use the Wii Remote......to control your TV.
Here's what Miguel, a 3D Design student in Japan who got his hands on the TV Guide channel recently and did some nice coverage on the new channel wrote. (Video's below)
Finally the newest channel (and with this one, 11 channels in total) is out and it’s better than I expected!. At the beginning you have to set up a lot of stuff and do the trials for your TV configuration.
It also checks the BS, CS, and DTT channels, so the whole configuration for it takes a while (about 5 mins or a bit less) but it’s pretty good actually, and maybe even worth it (though I’m not sure I will use this channel too much).

On the pic you can see some of the DTT channels (hence the high numbers) and my stamp (I can stamp and send up to 30 TV programs to friends so they know what I’m interested in, from today’s TV). After playing around for 10 minutes, I have noticed the followings
Add up to 50 friend's stamps (they show up on your channel)
Change volume, channel and TV input with the wiimote
About 15 TV brands works perfectly with the channel
You can check the next 7 day's TV Guide with full information about each program
You can make searches based on words or popularity (setting up gender and age)
You can search also by kind of program and then sub-menus to make the search more accurate
