As reported previously, Namco and Sega recently closed down a number of arcades in Japan. Now Namco is starting to rethink their plan. It seems that now Namco is looking into the development of arcade titles which link up with the Wii, exchanging data between the home and arcade...

"Data may not be all that's exchanged between the two. Reflecting on the poor performance of arcades in comparison to the strong performance of the Wii, Namco advertising manager Hitoshi Yamagata told the site that arcades have placed the focus on core gamers while the Wii is something that anyone can play."

Using a home console, or equivalent isn't unheard of. For example; the Dreamcast (Naomi), Saturn (STV) and Nintendo 64 (Ultra64) have all been used in some form to power arcade games in recent years.
