Microsoft Claims 60% of Wii Fits Unplayed
August 8th, 2008 2:16 AM
Editor: jbanes

Speaking at Microsoft's GameFest UK keynote, Vice President of Strategic Marketing for XBox Europe David Gosen went on record as saying that 60% of the five million Wii Fit units purchased go unplayed. According to Gosen, players play the game once before shelving the unit and software.

Gosen expanded his comments in an interview with Develop Magazine:

We’ve seen some research that says 60 per cent of people who bought a Wii Fit play it once and don’t play it again. So we have to get the balance right, because what we are doing is bringing new consumers into the market for the first time in their lives they are playing games sometimes – and we have to treat them with respect.

The Microsoft VP went on to call the Wii Fit a "gimmick", and stated that Microsoft was working on creating interfaces that are "deep and rewarding". He then held up Microsoft's E3 2008 announcement of Lips as a significant improvement over competitors offerings.

David Gosen worked for Nintendo of Europe prior to joining Microsoft.
